Camping in Trona
This is a video of the Trona Pinnacles. Trona Pinnacles are considered to range at youngest 11,000 to 25,000 at oldest, years old. However, the southern group is considered to up to 100,000 years old, which all together are part of an ancient inland sea. Now, they sit in Searles Lake Basin. Underground is calcium-rich groundwater and alkaline which together grow tufa formations. These are great examples of Tufa Towers. There are over 500.
Classification; These tufa towers have been given names. Once called Cathedral City, there are four general shapes.
Towers – rise up to 30 – 40 feet (9-12m) Taller than wide.
Tombstones – a stubby 20 – 30 feet (6-9m).
Ridges – described toothy, they are massive compared to the surrounding tufa, 800(240m) feet long and 500(150m) wide and 140943m) feet high.
Cones – 10(3m) feet tall, described dumpy or cone shaped.
I use my Honda Odyssey as a camper. It will be my disaster recovery vehicle if a disaster occurs. The video below was shot with a DJI Phantom 4k.
