This battery isolator charges both battery systems.
You connect this to your battery instead of your alternator. Since it is a voltage sensitive relay, it operates when the battery reaches 13.3 volts. It will never drain the battery because it has a cut-off at 12.8 volts. Please watch my video on this battery isolator install.
